Math Board Games
Playing math board games is one of the many ways to make learning fun for your child. Math is an important subject to master, but not all children like learning it. If you make a lesson that looks more like a game, your child will most likely become interested in it. You can make your own mathematics board games and watch your child have fun from learning. There are only a few things required for this simple project. You will need cardboard, colored markers, a yardstick, note cards, dice, and playing pieces.
Before you begin, it is wise to talk to your child’s math teacher to gauge which part of math that your child needs improvement on. The math board games should focus on the areas that your child finds the most challenging, so that the games can be helpful to your child. Usually your child’s math teacher will know which are the best resources for math games, so be sure to ask. You are now ready to create your very own algebra board games.
Start by developing a list of practice math problems and answers. Try to think of as many math problems as possible in your list. Remember, every problem that you list represents valuable practice for your child. When your list is complete, you can go to your storage room and dig out all your board games. Make use of the board games that you rarely play with by taking the dice and play pieces from it. Don’t worry about not getting the perfect math board games – just use whatever you have with you and make sure one side has no writing.
Get an unused cardboard and turn it into your math board games playing board.
Next, using a yard stick and a black marker, mark evenly spaced squares around your perimeter. On your math board games board, assign a point value to each of the square with colored markers. Don’t confuse yourself with too many colors, just choosing 2 or 3 colors will do the trick. For example, use green color to represent spaces that are worth 20 points, use blue color to represent spaces that are worth 10 points, and so forth. You will notice that your board game looks a little like math monopoly. Keep on assigning the points until you are left with four empty spaces without values. Be creative and add some fun into the game, such as skip a turn space or double your points space.
There are so much more things that you can do to help your child to realize that learning can be fun. In this day of age, most parents are working parents, so it’s understandable that sometimes parents find it hard to find the time to give their children a bit of extra motivation in the studies. But once you start doing it, you will realize that developing the math board games for your child is well worth your time and effort.
